In all countries where gorilla trekking takes place, there are several accommodation places that offer overnight accommodation to tourists. From luxurious 5 star safari lodges to budget “banda style” type of accommodation, there are lots of options for travelers intending to take a gorilla safari in Africa. Most of the accommodations in these places have good services and well maintained. Below are some of these accommodations where tourists can spend their nights;


Sabyinyo silver back lodge;

If not the best, this is one of the best gorilla lodges in Rwanda. The lodge is only minutes away from the headquarters of the Parc National des Volcans from where clients trek on foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla – perhaps one of the most dramatic, thrilling and poignant wildlife experiences possible.

The lodge, situated in the foothills of the mighty Virungas, the chain of 15,000 ft volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, affords wonderful views of the volcanoes and the surrounding countryside. Guest cottages and the main lodge building have been beautifully constructed and appointed and the lodge is the perfect base from which to explore this unique and fascinating corner of Africa. The lodge is built and operated by Governors’ Camp. The lodge is owned by a Community Trust, SACOLA, which uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park.

Hotel Muhabura

This is also another gorilla trekking hotel.Muhabura Hotel is found opposite the Musanze District headquarters on your way out of town on the main road to Rubavu (Gisenyi). You will find it on the right hand side after you have passed the Bank of Kigali building. Though it is a budget hotel, it is worthy a visit. It has facilities like balcony, conference facilities, and good gardens, well stocked restaurant and bar as well as a sauna and massage parlor.

Mountain Gorilla view lodge;

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is located in Kinigi in northern Rwanda and on the edge of the Volcanoes National Park; home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas. The lodge is located on the foothills of the Mount Karisimbi, one of the volcanic mountains that make up the Virunga Massif. The lodge is about 10 minutes’ drive to the main entrance of the Volcanoes National Park where gorilla trekking starts.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is an eco-lodge with 30 spacious chalets. To ensure the least disruption of the surrounding environment, the eco-lodge was constructed with locally available material. Every chalet comes with a sitting area with a fireplace and has a tea/coffee making machine. This eco-lodge supports the surrounding rural community by purchasing farm-fresh produce that is served in the lodge’s restaurant.

Kinigi guest house

Kinigi guest house is located at the edge of Sabyinyo Volcanic Mountain in Kinigi district. Kinigi guest house is located 11 Km of Ruhengeri town. The guest house was brought into being and managed by Association de Solidarité des Femmes Rwandese (ASOFERWA), an organization basically for orphans and widows hence a way to look after women groups, orphans and needy people as well as local art and craft works of women and orphans.Kinigi guest offers a variety of services which include; good rooms totaling to over 20 rooms with both hot and cold water, dormitories of over 16 people with both hot and cold water but with shared bathrooms, well maintained restaurant with great cuisine and a lounge with a fire place where people can relax in the evening after Gorilla tracking.

Virunga lodge

This lodge is vary magnificent and is perched high on a ridge and has stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes and the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhonda.The Virunga safari lodge in Rwanda has been described as having ‘the best view in the world’ and as ‘one of the finest lodges in Africa’. The organic, ‘bush-chic’ design reflects the local building style and offers eco-luxury comforts to all guests. Each banda has its own terrace with breath-taking views of the Virunga volcanoes or twin lakes, while sensitive installations such as low-flush toilets and solar power ensure you enjoy luxurious comforts while maintaining a crucial sensitivity to the environment. However every one staying at this magnificent hotel must have the ability backed up by the capability to stay there simply because this hotel is really expensive and luxurious in totality.


Gorilla forest camp

Gorilla forest camp is located deep in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in western Uganda; this intimate lodge offers luxury in the midst of one of Africa’s most amazing natural environments. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Bwindi is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth.

Gorilla Forest Camp has a bar and dining cottage as well as a natural raised platform for open-air dining. At night, a traditional African campfire is lit where the gorilla briefings take place. Cuisine and service has been described as the best in Uganda. Designed to blend seamlessly with the environment, eight spacious double tents raised off the ground on wooden platforms benefit from new en suite facilities that look out onto the surrounding vegetation. Each tent has a spacious wooden veranda where you can relax, enjoy a private meal or simply absorb the breath-taking scenery of the surrounding rainforest.

This camp is really recommendable after an adventurous morning trekking the gorillas, spend a relaxing afternoon in the mini spa and enjoy a treatment or a massage with the wonderful Africology products created from the healing properties of indigenous African plants.

Buhoma lodge

Buhoma Lodge commands spectacular views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. We have created an intimate, top quality lodge offering guests a cozy, relaxing environment. On occasion Mountain Gorillas have even been seen in the garden! When you first arrive at Buhoma you will be welcomed ‘home’ by a friendly staff. After a hard day trekking gorillas, put your feet up and relax by taking advantage of the deep, comfortable couches of our lounge, or perhaps enjoy a few drinks at the bar – getting to know new friends and sharing the day’s experiences.

Eight comfortable cottages have been carefully built from local materials. Each suite has a private verandah and enormous windows, allowing guests spectacular views of the forest canopy and the Bwindi National Park. The lounge area, complete with bar and dining facilities, offers a cozy place to discuss the day’s activities.

Meals are freshly prepared from local produce, offering a balance of international and local cuisine. Hot beverages are available throughout the day on a self-service basis, but morning tea or coffee is brought to your cottage, allowing you to savour the early morning sounds of the forest as it awakens.

Travelers’ Rest Hotel

Travelers’ Rest Hotel is Gorilla Tours’ own hotel located just outside Kisoro, in the extreme southwestern corner of Uganda on the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, offering a perfect base for gorilla trekking in the area. The hotel is built in a somewhat colonial style and was entirely renovated in 1999. It has 12 rooms at very reasonable prices, and it offers a cozy environment to relax in after gorilla treks or day visits to the area.

When you enter, the ibis welcomes you with its typical sound. The beautiful surrounding garden is the home of many birds. Sitting on the terrace you can smell the sweetish perfume of the honeysuckle, and in the evenings, when it gets cooler, you can warm yourself by the fireplace, outside or in the lounge.

From far away the huge cones of the Virunga volcanoes dominate the landscape and beckon as you approach. The surrounding landscape is of astonishing beauty. The Volcano Mountains offer spectacular views on the Rift Valley and the emerald-green Lake Mutanda in the distance.

From the hotel there are a lot of activities for visitors to undertake. Travelers’ Rest provides bikes to discover the nearby surroundings. You can visit Lake Mutanda, walk to the local market in Kisoro especially on Mondays and Thursdays, or climb one of the volcanoes. And of course you can go and track mountain gorillas, in Mgahinga National Park in Uganda or the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda.

Kisoro tourist hotel

This is also another good mode of accommodation in this gorilla trekking area. From a distance, you will see the cascading shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes unfolding and as you draw closer, the incredible panoramic view of the mountains which boarder Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC Congo.
